Meeting TeRABIT in Bari and students visiting the data center and PoP

03 March 2025

On 25-26 February 2025, the TeRABIT - Work-Package Leaders Meeting took place in Bari, providing an opportunity for project stakeholders to exchange ideas. The event brought together experts in the field to assess the progress of ongoing activities.

The first day began with an overview of the project's current status, presented by Mauro Campanella (INFN-GARR) and Silvia Calegari (INFN). This was followed by a session led by Daniele Cesini and Giacinto Donvito (INFN), who provided an in-depth analysis of the TeRABIT HPC Bubbles, examining their technical features and potential applications. Later, Chiara Scaini, Elisa Zuccolo, and Giorgio Bolzon (OGS) presented the latest developments in the SHAKE use case. The morning concluded with a visit to the rooms housing the HPC Bubbles.

In the afternoon, discussions focused on: federated identities and services across infrastructures, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICSC, and the definition of a user access model for resources. The day ended with a debate on sustainability and future prospects.

The second day was dedicated to a guided tour of the ReCaS data center and the GARR PoP for a group of approximately 100 students from the final-year IT classes at the "Luigi dell’Erba" technical institute in Castellana Grotte, Bari. After a brief introduction to the TeRABIT project, the students had the opportunity to explore the infrastructures, gain insights into the technologies used, and engage with researchers about the operation of computational and networking resources. This event served as a valuable opportunity to bring young students closer to advanced digital infrastructures, offering them a first-hand look at the technologies supporting scientific computing and data storage.
